MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Most months, from 2009 through 2020, Roger was proud to volunteer his time to Boston Children's Hospital through Flashes of Hope to create uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer.
Flashes of Hope was a national non-profit organization and partnered with over 70 world-class hospitals throughout the US and photographed over 85,000 children since it was founded in 2001. Unfortunately, now due to the pandemic, it is not possible for Roger & Flashes of Hope to continue to photograph in a hospital setting because of the necessary safety protocols. Fortunately, Flashes of Hope has now partnered with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and is able to continue their mission of accelerating cures for children's cancer.
Over the many years, Roger's portraits focused on the child & put cancer in the background.
For a few moments, it didn't seem like a hospital. Children who hadn't wanted to get out of bed were suddenly smiling & laughing.
To see a child smile, when there wasn't much to smile about, was an amazing experience.
For families of these children, it was especially important to have a portrait that showed the beauty, courage & dignity of their child.
There was hope & strength in each extraordinary smile. The portraits are an everyday reminder of what matters most.
Roger knows that kids with cancer are still just kids... and parents of these kids know that you don't get a second chance to capture a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
